March 22, 2024

 Dear Families,

Although it has been a short week here in EES, it has been a very busy one!

The students have enjoyed their last blast of winter playing out in the snow, but we are all now looking forward to spring.  When this snow melts it will be very wet and muddy, so please continue to send boots, rain pants, and extra clothing (especially socks!)

The students have continued their learning about spring holidays in their Language Arts lessons, and have practiced reading and writing Easter words, as well as matching and identifying items that we see during the Easter holiday.  In Math, students have also been practicing making number bonds to 5 and 10, as well as reviewing their learning on measurement, number sequencing and counting.  The students got to have time in the gym using the Mission Impossible obstacle course this week, which is challenging but always lots of fun!

Thank you to all families that came in for Parent/Teacher Interviews, it is always great to catch up and share how well your children are doing in school!  If you were not able to make it in for an interview, please reach out to set up an alternate time to chat.

We also had a special visitor this week - the Easter Bunny came in to share some chocolate eggs and say hi to our students! It was very exciting, and it helped get the students into the spring break mood.

Dear Families,

As the sun shines brighter and the air starts to warm up, we are embracing the arrival of spring in our classrooms!

LA: We continued learning about the theme of opposites in our lessons. Through playful activities and games, we explored concepts like big and small, hot and cold, and up and down. The green hues of St. Patrick's Day provided the perfect backdrop for learning, as we engaged in fun crafts and stories that celebrated the holiday’s spirit.

Math: To develop our understanding of measurement, we embarked on a journey of weighing objects. Children eagerly explored the concepts of heavier and lighter, using scales and balance beams to compare different items. Through hands-on experiences, we honed our observation skills and learned how to quantify the weight of objects in our environment.

Gym: Gym time is not just exercise for kids, it's an adventure waiting to unfold! Our gym teacher, Mr. V makes sure that every moment is filled with excitement and laughter.

Overall, it's been a joyous and educational week in our classroom, filled with laughter, learning, and the spirit of the season.

March 8

 Hello EES family!

It is hard to believe, we are less than two weeks before Spring Break! It's been a busy week in EES!

We started to learn about opposites in Language Arts. Our students practiced identify and match opposites through games and writing activities.

In Math, we continued learning about weight and compared heavy and light objects.

In Art, we had fun exploring different techniques and materials while creating Day and Night collage.

But most fun, we had in Science where our learners investigated light and how it behaves in various ways. In particular, how light is bending as it travels from one material to another (refraction).

This week, we also celebrated a Chocolate Cookie Day with sweet and tasty homemade cookies!

March 1, 2024

 Dear Families,

What a week it has been!  Between our busy schedule and the crazy weather, there has been a lot going on in EES.

We focused on the theme of Kindness this week, which we have been thinking about for a couple of weeks in preparation for Pink Shirt Day.  It was so great to see how many students wore their pink shirts to promote kindness and inclusion.  To help celebrate this day and to encourage kindness, the students engaged in a variety of activities.  We thought about kindness and writing notes to our friends in Language Arts, and did some yummy pink cooking!  The students practiced their life skills through baking delicious pink cupcakes, and pink cereal treat hearts - they enjoyed both making and eating them!  In their math lessons, students continued to work on measurement, counting, and number sequencing, and students got to play with some life skills activities to help them learn how to make a sandwich.

It was a challenge for some of our students to miss their outside time on the playground at the start of the week, but they eventually got to go out and play in the puddles.  Please continue to make sure that your child has spare clothes at school for those wet or muddy days outside.
