October 21-24, 2024

Hello Parents,

Our classrooms were transformed into a Halloween wonderland this week in Language Arts! We engaged in a variety of themed activities that combined fun and learning. From crafting spooky stories to creating matching activities centred around Halloween vocabulary, students had a blast enhancing their reading and writing skills. The excitement in the air was palpable as creativity flowed in our Halloween crafts, which included everything from ghostly decorations to pumpkin art, and we embarked on a Pumpkin Scavenger Hunt!

In Math, we dove into the world of patterns. Students explored and created patterns, reinforcing their understanding of sequences and relationships. The combination of festive fun and mathematical concepts kept everyone engaged and eager to learn!

As the weather gets colder, we want to ensure that all students are prepared for our community walks and outdoor playtime when the weather permits. Please make sure your child has proper winter gear, including coats, hats, gloves, and warm footwear. Keeping everyone comfortable will help us enjoy our outdoor activities even more!

October 15-18, 2024

 Dear Families,

We have had another busy week, as usual!

Our students have been learning about the season of fall, leaves, and Thanksgiving.  We had conversations and wrote sentences about the things that we are thankful for, and also thought about the types of food that people eat at Thanksgiving.  The students are working on writing full sentences and tracing words, as well as matching words and pictures that focus on the theme of Thanksgiving.

In math the EES classes have been practicing completing and creating patterns using a variety of manipulatives and visual strategies.  We have listened to songs, played games, and used different objects to practice noticing and finishing patterns.

The students have been creating some fall and Thanksgiving themed art pieces, as well as working on creating their art cards that will be available for purchase before the winter break.  Students also enjoyed mixing and exploring oobleck in science. The students explored the cornstarch and water mixture, and then mixed in some jellied cranberry sauce to change the colour, texture and smell of the oobleck.  It was a fun and messy experiment! Students also made 'dirt and worms' in cooking - which was also very messy and fun!

Now that the weather is starting to cool down, please ensure that your child has a coat, gloves and a hat for the cold mornings. We went on a community walk this week to get outside and see the fall leaves. Our students regularly go outside for gym, and also go to the playground every day so they need to be prepared!

A reminder to all participants to please leave any weapons or gory accessories that may go with your costume at home.  Costumes must be non-violent in nature (no guns, swords, fake blood). If a mask is part of their Halloween costume, we ask that students not wear the mask at school as it may be disruptive to student learning.

Please do not send any treats with your child to share due to allergies and other medical concerns.

Students will be participating in classroom-based Halloween themed learning activities that are sure to be fun and engaging.

Casino Fundraiser

Our Casino Fundraiser Event will be take place on November 26 and 27 at Deerfoot Inn and Casino.

This is our biggest fundraiser by far, usually raising $40,000-$80,000 for the school to use over the next three years. Proceeds fund residencies, subsidise field trip bussing, buy supplies that benefit the whole school such as library books, and much more.

How it works – We provide volunteers to work at Deerfoot Inn and Casino for two days and the casino donates some of the profits to the school. An advisor trains all the volunteers’ onsite so no prior experience or special skills are necessary. Unlike other school volunteering opportunities, police clearance is NOT required. Some positions must be filled by parents/guardians of children in the school but other positions (cashier, chip runner, and count room staff) can be filled by any adult, including friends or neighbours. Meals are included for volunteers during their shifts.

PLEASE SIGN UP FOR A SHIFT BELOW.

October 07-11, 2024

Hello Parents!

What a lovely week we’ve had! Our focus was on the beautiful fall season and the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday. The children embraced the spirit of the season through various activities, including making delicious no-bake pumpkin treats. It was a great way to introduce them to the flavours and traditions of autumn.

In addition to our culinary adventures, we also explored our creativity with some fun arts and crafts projects. The students enjoyed expressing themselves and creating beautiful fall-themed artwork that brightened up our space.

The highlight of the week, however, was the opportunity for our students to participate in inline skating! It was fantastic to see them embrace the challenge, have fun, and build their confidence on wheels.

Overall, it was a week filled with learning, creativity, and joy. We can’t wait to see what next week will bring!
