November 24-27, 2025

 Hello EES families!

We've been waiting for it for so long, and finally it has arrived! This week we've got SNOW! What an excitement it was to see, feel and play outside! Just friendly reminder, please send changing set of clothes (including socks) for your child, as we might need it after going outside and playing in the snow. Also, the weather is very unpredictable in Calgary, and it can be very cold. Please, send appropriate winter set of clothes, hats, mittens and snow pants.

Another exciting and important event we had this week, it is having a very special guest visiting our school and our program. We were honoured to meet with Hal Eagletail, the Indigenous Knowledge Keeper.  He is well known in Alberta for being an advocate for Indigenous learning and has been active in CBE schools for several years. Mr. Eagletail met with our students, sang traditional songs, told stories, and taught our students special drum beats. We loved learning from Hal Eagletail and hope he will visit us again!

In Language Arts,  we continued learning opposites and discovering how different objects can change from big to small, from short to long, as well as practicing our reading and writing skills  by learning new words.

In UFLI, we've focused on short O, CVC words with Letter O and practiced reading and writing new words.

In Life skills lessons, our students have learned about teeth health, steps and sequences of brushing teeth. It was fun to try and implement our newly learned skills on a dental teeth model.

The Magic of Christmas

Every Christmas Eve, The Magic of Christmas loads up Calgary Transit buses that are magically transformed into “reindeer buses”, with hundreds of gifts and volunteers dressed as Santa and his elves.  Then they deliver Christmas spirit into the homes and hearts of those who need it most.

From now to December 18, students and staff can bring in a new, unwrapped donation items (not food) and place them in the boxes located in the front foyer.

Please see the attached wish list for ideas of items to donate.

For more information or to make a monetary donation, please visit:  www.themagicofchristmas.org/donate

Thank you for your support!

November 17-21, 2025

 Dear EES Families,

We all hope that everyone had a wonderful Fall Break, and it was so nice to see the students back for a full week of school. It has been a busy one!

In Language Arts we have been learning about opposites. In our learning groups the students have explored words and their opposites through songs, stories, games, matching pictures and writing. Everyone is getting so much better at identifying the opposite of a given word and finding the corresponding visual. In Math, we have been focusing on patterns. The students are making and recognizing a variety of patterns using cubes, toys, sounds, actions and more. It is a fun and hands on way to see math in the world around us.  Now that cold and flu season is upon us, we have also been learning about proper handwashing in daily Life Skills lessons - a very important skill!

The students have also acknowledged Métis Week through music, cooking, and art. We measured and mixed ingredients to make bannock, which turned out delicious!  We also used dot art to make Métis flags in our art lesson.

Important Information:

Parent/Teacher Conferences

There is no school for students in grades 1-4 on Friday, November 28 due to conferences.

Instructions: In order to book a conference please use your MyCBE account https://sis.cbe.ab.ca/public/home.html. Here are instructions for how to register for a conference https://support.cbe.ab.ca/mycbe-powerschool-school-conferences.  Please contact the office if you require support.

These conferences are an opportunity to meet your child’s teacher and to provide teachers with information about your child that is important. Teachers will inform you on how your child is adapting to and settling into the new school year as well as with an academic update based on the information they have gathered since September. In addition, you will be able to review and sign IPP's and Behaviour Support Plans if applicable. Please note that due to labour action, the assessment data gathered is not as robust as usual at this time of year.  However, please be assured that your child’s teacher knows them well and has significant insights into their academic, personal and social needs.  All teachers are looking forward to meeting with you at the conferences.

November 3-7, 2025

Dear Families,

This week, our school community came together for a meaningful Remembrance Day Assembly. All students participated in this important event, which included poetry, song, and a collective moment of reflection with two minutes of silence at 11:00 a.m. It was a moving opportunity for students to honour and remember those who have served and sacrificed for our freedom. We are proud of the respect and thoughtfulness shown by our students throughout the assembly.

In Language Arts, students engaged in activities recognizing World Kindness Day (November 13). Together, we explored ways to express kindness and built connections by creating friendship bracelets, with each colour representing a unique quality of friendship. Students also expressed their creativity by painting poppy flowers, further connecting their learning to the themes of remembrance and gratitude.
