Feb 23-26, 2026

 Dear EES families!

It was a beautiful last week of February. We are so happy to finally see some of that snow melting! Spring is in the air and we got to enjoy the amazing sunshine every time we went outside. This week we had a very special guest, Indigenous Knowledge Keeper Hal Eagletail. He sang traditional songs, shared stories, and talked about animals, nature, and the weather changes. Our students were thrilled to see him again. They were dancing, singing, and playing the drum with Mr. Eagletail.

In Language Arts, we learned about kindness and friendship through songs, writing and matching activities. This whole week was about celebration of the Pink Shirt Day and the story behind this.

In Math, we started a measurement unit. We are learning about the metric system and where we can apply it in real life. We measured our palms and feet with a ruler. Now, we are ready to shop for shoes!

We also learned to compare sizes, distinguish between and use terms "long" and "short".

February 17-20, 2026

Hello Families,

We hope you are all staying warm during this chilly stretch of winter weather! It has certainly been a very cold week, and because of the extreme temperatures, we were unable to spend time outside for our usual outdoor play. Even so, our classroom was full of warmth, laughter, and meaningful learning experiences.

Throughout the week, we focused on engaging, hands-on activities that supported our students’ development in fun and creative ways. We spent quality time exploring sensory and Occupational Therapy (OT) activities that helped strengthen fine motor skills and coordination. The students especially enjoyed participating in art and craft projects and other learning tasks that encouraged creativity and teamwork.

In Language Arts, we read a lovely story about Family Day, which sparked wonderful conversations about the people we love and what makes our families special. We also began learning about Lunar New Year, exploring its traditions, symbols, and celebrations.

Our creative time in crafts tied in beautifully with our learning. We made colorful dragons to celebrate the Lunar New Year! The students were very proud of their creations and had a great time designing and decorating them.

In Science, we completed a fun and exciting “Fizzy Heart” experiment in honor of Family Day. The students loved watching the reactions and learning about simple chemical changes in a hands-on way.

In Math, we focused on learning about Canadian coins. To make our learning come alive, we created a classroom toy store! Students had the opportunity to “shop” for items using play money, practicing their counting and coin recognition skills in a real-life scenario. It was a huge hit and a wonderful way to build confidence in math.

February 9-11, 2026

 Dear EES Families,

Although this week has been very short, it has also been very busy and fun!

With Valentine's Day, Family Day, and Pink Shirt Day coming up, we have continued to focus on the theme of 'kindness' and how we can be kind to others.  The students have continued to think about kind things that they can do, and trying to notice the kind things that others do for them.  We have been writing sentences, sequencing words, making words, as well as listening to read alouds and songs all about kindness.

The students have also continued to learn about time, how to read analog clocks, and recognizing what things happen in our schedules at different times of day.  We have been thinking about AM/PM, and trying to notice the difference between things that we do in the morning and the night.  Some students are also working recognizing that the sun and moon can be seen at different times of day.

Students have been creating some beautiful pieces of Valentine's Day art, take a look at the pictures to see!
