March 16-19, 2026

Dear EES Families,

We have certainly had another busy week in the EES program!

The students have started to learn about the theme of 'Spring' in their Language Arts lessons.  They have been matching identical and non-identical pictures, matching words and letters, sequencing words to make sentences, tracing sentences and phrases, and writing sentences about a picture.  The students have also been listening to a lot of springtime songs and read alouds to help them with the seasonal vocabulary.

In Math, the students have continued to learn about measurement.  Some students are focusing on measuring weight and using the terms 'heavy' and 'light' to identify the weight of given objects.  Other students have started to learn about capacity and using the terms 'full' and 'empty' to describe given containers.  We have used a variety of different materials and scales to help us practice using this vocabulary in our math lessons.

Since we are learning about measurement, we thought it would be fun to put our learning to good use and do some baking!  The students measured and mixed ingredients to make Irish soda bread in honour of St. Patrick's Day.  It was very fun (and messy) to measure and blend all of the ingredients, and it all came together to make a very delicious treat!

In Phys. Ed. this week, it is Mission Impossible!  Mr. V. has set up loads of very fun and very challenging obstacles in the gym and it is our job to get through them all.  It is awesome to see our students running, jumping, crawling, balancing and having fun in so many different ways!

We also had a visit from Hal Eagletail this week.  He played traditional songs for us, and taught us about the sounds that different animals make. It was so great to enjoy the drumming and singing with our friends in the classroom!

As the snow is continuing to fall and melt, we are seeing a lot of muddy puddles around our school.  Please ensure that your child has splash pants and boots as well as extra clothes at school in case they get wet when playing outside.  Please label all of the items that are sent in - thank you!

March 9-13, 2026

Hello EES Families,

This week, we saw the temperature dip again and even had some snow! The weather reminded us that winter isn’t quite ready to leave yet.

In Language Arts, we read the classic story The Very Hungry Caterpillar. The students really enjoyed the colorful story and learning about how the caterpillar grows and changes.

In Science, we connected the story to our learning by talking about the life cycle of a butterfly. The children were fascinated to learn how a tiny egg grows into a caterpillar, then forms a chrysalis, and finally becomes a butterfly.

In Math, we continued practicing our skills with Canadian coins and telling time. Students are becoming more confident in recognizing coins and understanding their values, and we continue to practice reading the clock throughout the day.

Music is always a fun class for the kids, and they look forward to singing, moving, and exploring different rhythms each week.

We also had a lockdown practice at school. These practices are part of our regular safety procedures and help students learn how to respond calmly and safely during drills.

Parent-Teacher Conferences

A reminder that Parent-Teacher Conferences will take place next week. Conferences will be held in person at the school on Thursday, March 19, from 3:30 pm – 7:30 pm and Friday, March 20 from 8:00 am – 12:00 pm.

Parents can book conference times through their CBE account. Conference bookings will open on Saturday, March 14 at 8:00 am and close on Thursday, March 19, at 2:00 pm.

This will be a great opportunity to talk about your child’s progress and learning. We look forward to meeting you!

During Parent-Teacher Conferences, we invite families to place a colourful push pin on our world map located in our Learning Commons to show where their family comes from. Together, we will create a vibrant display celebrating the diverse backgrounds that make up our school community.

Pancake Breakfast

On Monday, March 30, MTS will be hosting a Pancake Breakfast for all students and staff.

To help make this event a success, we are looking for parent volunteers for the morning. If you can assist, please click on the link below.

March 2-6, 2026

 Dear EES Families,

It has certainly been another busy week in our classrooms! The students have continued to work very hard in their learning, while having lots of fun.

In Math, we have continued to work through a measurement unit.  Students are focusing on noticing length using non-standard measurements, as well as matching and sorting items that are long and short.  We are already seeing progress in these skills!

In Language Arts, the students have started to focus on St. Patrick’s Day and all things green!  We have been writing sentences, building words, labelling pictures and recognizing new vocabulary.  We have all enjoyed learning about St. Patrick’s Day through read alouds, songs and games.

The students continued on this seasonal theme in their Science and Art activities.  We made ‘fizzy shamrocks’ through mixing baking soda with green paint to decorate shamrock shapes.  The students practiced their fine motor skills through using spray bottles and pipettes to add vinegar to their shamrocks and see them exciting chemical reactions!

We ended the week with cooking and the students worked together to prepare St. Patrick’s Day fruit rainbow salad.  So yummy, colourful, and healthy!
