Dear EES Families,
We have had another busy week in our EES classes.
The students focused a lot their learning on the Chinese Lunar New Year, the traditions behind it, and what can be experienced during this celebration. In Language Arts, the students learned about the Year of the Snake through stories, reading, writing, matching words and songs. We made wishes for the new year, and wrote about the things that you might see, hear, taste, smell and touch during the new year celebrations. In Science, the students learned about slippery and slithery snakes! We made snakes from different materials including chain links, play dough, cubes and bubbles! In Math, students have begun to explore the concept of measurement. We are learning about what tools are used for different types of measurement, and have started to practice comparing items that are long and short.
In Cooking the students got to practice their functional skills through making tasty toast, and worked on their measuring skills by making no-cook play dough. The play dough was then used to make long and short snakes as part of a math and art task. The students honed their art skills through cutting with scissors, gluing and colouring to make Chinese New Year creations.

Wear Red for Kindness
February is Kindness month.
On Wednesday, February 12, students are invited to wear RED for Valentine’s Day, to celebrate the messages of kindness, caring and friendship that are associated with the special day.
There is no school on February 13 & 14 due to the city-wide Teachers Convention which all staff will be attending. Therefore, on February 12, students may choose to bring valentines to school for their class.
We ask that if students bring valentines, that they ensure that they have a valentine for everyone in their class. Students can sign their own name on the card for their classmate. The school will not be distributing class lists with names to students. Please do not send any treats to school for the class as the school is not able to distribute to students due to food allergies and other medical considerations.
