September 22-26, 2025

Dear Families,

It has been a busy and meaningful week in our classroom, and with the long weekend ahead, I hope everyone takes the chance to rest and recharge.

This week, our school came together for a special assembly as part of Truth and Reconciliation. We reflected on the importance of learning from the past and building a better future together. Many of us wore orange shirts to show our respect and support. It was wonderful to see the spirit of unity in our school community.

In Language Arts, we read Smiles So Big by Sunshine Tenasco, an Indigenous author. The story presented opportunities for us to think and talk about kindness, confidence, and celebrating who we are. This tied in beautifully with our social-emotional learning, as we continue to practice understanding our own feelings and recognizing the feelings of others.

In Math, we have been working on addition and subtraction. The students are practicing different strategies to help build a strong foundation and confidence in their number sense.

September 15-19, 2025

 Hello EES families!

What a beautiful weather and a very busy week with lots of new and exciting activities we've had!

Our students had a chance this week to participate in dance residency with ThreeLeftFeet instructors. It was a great opportunity to learn some hip hop moves and following instructions.

In Language arts, we continued enriching our vocabulary with words and symbols related to school and classroom rules. To be successful in learning, it is important to know and follow such rules as keeping your voice quiet, respecting personal space, using kind words, asking for help. We practiced our listening skills through songs and games. One of our favourites is a song by Patty Shukla :

Some of the language arts learning activities this week included matching identical and non-identical pictures of different rules, building sentences and practicing tracing and writing skills.

In UFLI group this week, we learned reading and spelling CVC words with short A.

In math, we were exploring numbers and different ways to show them. Working with stickers, counting dots on the dice, finding the "mystery number on the 100 chart are only some of the ways to count. Our students practiced recognizing numbers, matching them to different amounts.

In science this week, we learned how to make non-popping bubbles! We practiced measuring, reading labels, mixing and observing the changes in the solution. It was very exciting to discover a new way to make bubbles!

Reminders:

- Please sign and return to school the pink form for Alien Inline skating. It's a great opportunity for all of our students to try and learn how to skate. We will provide one-on-one support during the activity.

- Please label everything your child wears/brings to school! It will help us a lot to avoid misplacing the items or sending home wrong clothes.

- As Fall approaches and its weather becomes more unpredictable, please make sure your child has indoor shoes which will stay at school.

- Please send a water bottle every day to school.

September 8-12, 2025

 Dear Families,

What a busy week! Our students have jumped right into their learning and have had a lot of fun. We have started our learning groups in Language Arts, Math, and Life Skills.

In Language Arts we have been focusing on school rules, and expected behaviours. The students are writing, matching words and captioning pictures to show their understanding of the rules that we all follow in the classroom, in the hallway, and on the playground.

The Math lessons have been teaching students about numbers. We are counting, sequencing numbers, and making numbers using counters, stickers, cubes and more.

Our Life Skills lessons have been looking and different types of food, and sorting items into things that we can eat, and things that we cannot eat.  While some students work on these life skills, others have started to work their way through the UFLI literacy program to enhance their reading skills.

We ended the week with the Terry Fox Run and fundraiser - thank you to all the families that were able to contribute.  The students joined their school community outside on the field and ran laps for Terry, and it was so great to see everyone running and having fun together!
