Dear EES Families,
Another busy week, as usual!
In Language Arts we have been focusing on arctic animals. We are learning to identify the animals through matching pictures, matching words, labelling pictures, and writing sentences. The students are reinforcing their learning through a variety of songs, games, and stories that focus on the theme of arctic animals. In our Math lessons, the students have been continuing to learn about time. Students are practicing recognizing clocks, matching different clock visuals, labelling clocks with numbers, and learning to tell time to the hour a half hour. These skills are practiced using real clocks, visuals, songs and games. The science lesson this week focused on the environment that arctic animals live in, and how their bodies are able to keep them warm. Some of our students used sensory play to explore where arctic animals live, and some students did an experiment to learn about blubber. We noticed that the a layer of blubber (lard) helped keep our hands warm in icy cold water! In Life Skills we have been learning about the difference between 'clean' and 'dirty' and have spent time practicing cleaning different items in the classroom.
The students also got to play outside in some milder weather for a change, which we are all enjoying! The warm temperatures mean that we sometimes have a very wet and messy playground. Please ensure that your child has outerwear that will keep them warm and dry, as well as extra clothes in case they get wet. Label all items, please!
Important Information:
Dogs on School Property
This is a reminder that CBE Administrative Regulation AR6004 - Animals in Schools restricts animals on school property. Dogs are not permitted on school grounds except where expressly approved under AR6004 (e.g., service animals or authorized educational purposes).
Additionally, the City of Calgary Responsible Pet Ownership Bylaw prohibits dogs on school property, including playgrounds and fields.
School leaders are asked to reinforce these requirements and address non-compliance promptly by:
· Communicating directly with the pet owner, or
· Calling 311 to report a bylaw infraction.

Food Support
Did you know that the Breakfast Club of Canada has shared research demonstrating that 40% of Alberta’s children experience food insecurity? This means that 4 out of 10 children do not have access to food when they are hungry.
If your family is experiencing challenges with providing food for your children you can find help at Brown Bagging Calgary.
Complete this form for support and they can deliver lunches to McKenzie Towne School for your children. https://go.bb4ck.org/l/858913/2024-01-15/38fdbw You can also find out more information on their website https://bb4ck.org/
