June 9-13, 2025

Hello EES Families,

What a wonderful week we have had in our classrooms! With Father’s Day around the corner, the kids got busy making homemade BBQ rubs and creating beautiful cards to celebrate the special people in their lives. It was so sweet to watch them carefully measure spices and think about what they wanted to write for their dads, grandpas, and father figures.

We also spent time connecting with the Seven Grandfathers Teachings, an important part of Indigenous culture that reminds us to lead with love, respect, courage, honesty, wisdom, humility, and truth. The children loved getting their hands in the soil as we planted together, talking about what it means to care for the earth and each other.

And to top it all off, we treated ourselves to a little fun by making handmade ice cream! The excitement on their faces as they shook their bags and waited for the magic to happen was priceless.

It’s been a week filled with laughter, learning, and special moments. Thank you for sharing your amazing children with us- they continue to fill our days with joy.

Wishing all the incredible dads, grandfathers, uncles, and father figures a very Happy Father’s Day!

 Hello EES families!

Lots of exciting events were happening this week at EES! We started to learn about community signs. It is  a very important life skill preparing our students to successful experiences when out in the community. We have integrated this topic into Language Arts, Math and Art to create unforgettable and hands-on experiences. Our students have worked very hard learning, sorting, matching and creating our own road and community signs.

In Language Arts, our focus was on exploring different signs we can see when walking on driving in our community, learning about their meaning and applied rules. We practiced reading new words, build sentences using new vocabulary, describing signs and their purpose in pre-printed and our own words.

In Math, we combined "driving" lessons and addition and subtraction exercises! Through this activity, we have practiced to differentiate between these two important mathematical operations and when to use "plus" or "minus" symbols. Using cars and driving them forward or backward on the "parking lot" with numbered spots helped visualize the addition as "moving up", "forward" and subtraction as "moving backward" on the number line. We also have learned to recognize shapes of the signs and match them with the real pictures.

In Art, one group got their our hands painted red and green in order to create traffic signs! It was a very fun art and sensory experience. Another group worked hard to cut, glue and decorate the signs with colorful papers.

The weather was beautiful this week, which allowed us to practice following traffic sign through a game. Now we know that "Red" means "STOP" and "Green" means "GO"!

As a "bonus" lesson, we were fortunate to go on the community walk and discover what community signs we can find on the street!

 Dear EES Families,

As usual, it has been a very busy week here in the EES classrooms!  We have been working on a lot of different learning skills, as well as enjoying the beautiful sunny weather.  Please continue to send in shorts, water and hats for students as we will continue to spend time outside when it is warm.

In Language Arts we have been learning about bees and how they make honey.  The students have listened to songs and stories, sequenced letters and words, and have written sentences to talk about what bees look like, how they make honey, and what honey is.  In Math, some of our students have been working on addition and subtraction, and recognizing if they need to add or take away depending on the mathematical symbol and vocabulary that they see in the question.  Other students have been practicing recognizing, sorting and matching different 2D shapes, and noticing them in pictures and our environment.

We have been very lucky for the last two weeks to have double gym each day!  We have had the opportunity to have gym time both in the morning and the afternoon, so that we could have fun in the gym in the morning and also get some fresh air and exercise outside after lunch.

Since we have been learning about bees and honey, we just had to use honey as an ingredient in our cooking this week.  We made honey pancakes, which had honey mixed into the batter as well as drizzled on top - so yummy!  The students had the opportunity to practice following a recipe, measuring ingredients and mixing them together.

We have been learning about different insects for several weeks, so our art has all been focused on these creatures.  We have made lots of different art pieces, such as ladybugs and bees, and this week we made some very hungry ants.  The students practiced cutting, gluing and placing their materials on a page to create some unique and beautiful pieces!

 Hello Families,

We had a short but busy week full of learning and fun!

Our students have been enjoying extra gym time, working on their movement skills, playing games, and building friendships. It’s been a great way for everyone to stay active and practice teamwork.

In Language Arts, we’ve been learning about Community Helpers - talking about the important people who help in our community, like firefighters, doctors, and police officers. The students loved sharing their ideas and learning new vocabulary.

In Math, we started exploring Canadian coins. The children have been practicing identifying coins, learning their names, values, and noticing the different pictures on each one.

We have also made the most of the beautiful weather by spending time outside in nature. The students had so much fun blowing bubbles, searching for insects, and enjoying sensory play in the fresh air.

 Hello EES families!

This week, we were finally be able to spent more time outside! Our PE, Science and even art classes were moved outside! We noticed the blossoms, green leaves and lots of bugs crawling on the field. We are so grateful for the opportunity to feel, see, and smell the spring.

In language arts we learned about insects. Everyone loved playing guess the name of the bug at the end of the lesson.

In math, we started to practice subtraction. Our students learned that subtraction means take away from the bigger number. Playing "popping" balloons game on the Smart Board helped to understand how the number changes when we subtract.

In Science, after short presentation about insects, we went outside with magnifying glasses to look for bugs and crawlies!

In a conclusion of this wonderful week, we created beautiful bees and ladybugs from paper and recycling materials.
