June 2-6, 2025

 Hello EES families!

Lots of exciting events were happening this week at EES! We started to learn about community signs. It is  a very important life skill preparing our students to successful experiences when out in the community. We have integrated this topic into Language Arts, Math and Art to create unforgettable and hands-on experiences. Our students have worked very hard learning, sorting, matching and creating our own road and community signs.

In Language Arts, our focus was on exploring different signs we can see when walking on driving in our community, learning about their meaning and applied rules. We practiced reading new words, build sentences using new vocabulary, describing signs and their purpose in pre-printed and our own words.

In Math, we combined "driving" lessons and addition and subtraction exercises! Through this activity, we have practiced to differentiate between these two important mathematical operations and when to use "plus" or "minus" symbols. Using cars and driving them forward or backward on the "parking lot" with numbered spots helped visualize the addition as "moving up", "forward" and subtraction as "moving backward" on the number line. We also have learned to recognize shapes of the signs and match them with the real pictures.

In Art, one group got their our hands painted red and green in order to create traffic signs! It was a very fun art and sensory experience. Another group worked hard to cut, glue and decorate the signs with colorful papers.

The weather was beautiful this week, which allowed us to practice following traffic sign through a game. Now we know that "Red" means "STOP" and "Green" means "GO"!

As a "bonus" lesson, we were fortunate to go on the community walk and discover what community signs we can find on the street!

Important dates and information:

SPORTS DAY Volunteers Needed!

This year, Sports Day will take place on Tuesday, June 24 with two sessions:

  • Morning Session: 9:00-10:30 AM (AM Kinders, grades 3 and 4)

  • Afternoon Session: 1:00-2:15 PM (PM Kinders, grades 1 and 2)

We have 22 stations this year, so we'll need lots of hands on deck. Volunteers will meet in the gym at the start to receive instructions on setting up, running stations, and returning equipment to the gym afterward. Mr. V. will provide all necessary equipment and an instruction sheet for each station.

Morning volunteers should plan to be at the school from 8:20 to 10:45, and afternoon volunteers from 12:20 to 2:30.

Only those who have been cleared in the office can volunteer for this event.

Here is the link below if you would like to help.
