Hello families,

It has been a week filled with warmth, both from the returning sunshine and the blossoming kindness among our students. Here are some highlights of what we’ve been up to in our classrooms.

LA: This week, we embarked on a heartwarming journey of exploring the importance of spreading kindness and the profound impact it can have on everyone around us. We read the delightful book 'Have you filled your bucket today?' by Carol McCloud. Through this beautifully illustrated story, we delved into the concept of "bucket-filling" and how simple acts of kindness can fill not only the hearts of others but also our own. One of the highlights was the creation of our very own kindness buckets. Each student decorated their bucket, symbolizing the vessel where they could collect and store acts of kindness, both given and received.

Science: Our students had a fun music science experiment that was all about making sounds, how we hear sounds, pitch and music! A speaker was set under a drum, and the vibrating objects made tiny, very fast back-and-forth movements.

Math: We continued learning about the concept of measurement using non-standard units.

Outdoor play: The sunny skies provided the perfect backdrop for outdoor play and exploration. It is always a joy to see students basking in the warmth of the sun, their spirits lifted by the simple pleasures of playing together with their friends.

Hello Families!

Although it has been a short week at school, it has also been a busy one!

Our students have been using the theme of kindness and emotions to guide their learning in language arts, and it has helped them to practice identifying how they and others are feeling.  Math lessons have focused on measurement, alongside counting and number sequencing.  Science lessons have given students the opportunity to explore how sound is made, loud and quiet sounds, and to practice identifying mystery sounds. 

Art lessons have led students to create some very beautiful pieces for Valentine's Day, check out some pictures below!

Hello EES families! 

Happy Lunar New Year to those who celebrate! 

In Language Arts, we started to learn about feelings. Students focused on recognizing and naming feelings and emotions using visuals, photos and playing matching games. 

In Math, we are started measurements and focus on ‘tall/long’ and ‘short’ concepts with hands-on activities, songs, stories and worksheets. During one of the activities, students measured their feet with connecting cubes. It was lots of fun!

In the Gym class, our students are learning to calm their bodies after active games. 

In Science, we learned about sound, what is vibration, sources and characteristics of sound. Students had a chance to play a guitar and observe how vibration creates sound.

In arts class, students worked on creating face expressions using different materials.

With Calgary’s ever-changing weather, it is important to ensure your child has appropriate outdoor clothing for school. Students go outside daily for lunch and afternoon recess so hats, mittens, and snow pants to accompany winter boots and coats are a must on these winter days!

Hello Families,

We have had another busy week in EES!  The students have continued their learning about arctic animals, which can be seen in their artwork, science, fine motor skills practice and language arts.  In language arts, the students have been working on sentence writing using adjectives to describe arctic animals, and labelling the parts of their bodies.  In math, we have been learning about telling time and reading clocks, as well as number sequencing and counting.  In science lessons, the students have explored textures, magnets and sensory play using arctic animals.  

Thankfully, the weather has gotten much warmer! However, this means that the playground is very icy and wet.  Please ensure that your child has spare clothes in case they get wet outside, and boots that will help them over the slippery pavement.

Families can now view online student report cards.  Parents and Guardians will sign in to MyCBE to view student information, including report cards, comments from your child’s teacher, assignments and grades, and attendance information.
