December 9-13, 2024

 Dear EES Families,

The holiday preparations are well underway in EES!

The students have been focusing on holiday stories and songs in their Language Arts lessons, and they have used these stories to inspire their writing. Some students have been thinking and writing about what animals pull the sleigh on Christmas Eve, and others have been writing about how they could trap Santa Clause to ask him for more presents! Students have been writing words and sentences, with a focus on writing clearly and with appropriate punctuation.  Others have been copying, tracing or matching Christmas words.

In Math, the students have been learning about shapes. They are practicing naming them, matching, counting the corners and sides, and using them to make pictures and patterns. Shapes are a fun way to make math lessons festive and fun!

Science lessons have helped the students learn about ‘hot’ and ‘cold’. They have practiced using this vocabulary to identify and compare different temperatures. We have also done some Christmas experiments! The students saw static electricity at work as they picked up tinsel with a balloon, and they make jingle bells dance by putting them in a carbonated drink!

The students had the opportunity to create some beautiful winter and Christmas art, and they got to see the dress rehearsal of the school choir singing Christmas songs!
