Dear EES Families,
We had a very fun and very bus week full of learning and crazy weather!
The students have been learning about Earth Day in preparation for our Earth Day celebration next week. In Language Arts we have been practicing matching words and pictures, tracing sentences, and writing about what items belong in the recycling bin, the garbage, or the compost. The students have been sorting common items into these three bins, and using songs and read alouds to strengthen their understanding.
In Math, the students have been practicing recognizing numbers, counting, and using number lines to add. There are a lot of great songs and interactive games that help the students to recognize numbers, learn to sequence them, and practice combining them to get a total amount.
The Life Skills lessons have been focusing on common kitchen items and things that we use to eat. The students are working on recognizing and identifying spoons, forks, knives, plates and cups and matching real items to the pictures. Next week we will begin sorting identical and nonidentical kitchen tools.
In honour of Earth Day, the students made some beautiful springtime art! They created pretty flowers with the planet Earth in the middle, to help us remember how we can take care of our land by taking care of the plants and flowers that are around us.
As the weather has taken a very snowy turn this week, please continue to make sure that your child has appropriate outdoor clothing and footwear so that they can stay comfortable and dry when they go outside for recess. Thank you!
***We now have two cases of Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease in our EES program. If your child is showing symptoms (fatigue, fever, spots on their hands, face, feet or body) please keep them home as it is extremely contagious.

If your family is experiencing challenges with providing food for your children you can find help at Brown Bagging Calgary.
Complete this form for support and they can deliver lunches to McKenzie Towne School for your children. https://go.bb4ck.org/l/858913/2024-01-15/38fdbw You can also find out more information on their website https://bb4ck.org/
