June 1-5, 2026

 Dear EES Families,

It has been a week of crazy weather, lots of learning, and lots of fun!

In Language Arts the students have continued to focus on the theme of farm animals.  We have been looking at the different creatures that you would find of a farm, and are practicing identifying them by their name, description, and the sound that they make.  The students have been matching words and pictures, tracing phrases and writing sentences to demonstrate their learning about farm animals, and they have been using read alouds, songs and games to help make the lessons fun.

In Math, the students have been learning about money.  It is an important functional skill to be able to recognize money, know what it is for, and to work towards gaining an understanding of its value.  While some students are matching and sorting coins using pictures and manipulatives, others are using money to add and subtract.  We have been using songs and games to introduce each lesson and to give the students an opportunity to connect with this concept in an engaging way.

In Life Skills, the students have continued to practice their kitchen skills through mixing with a spoon, and cutting with a knife.  We have been practicing holding the spoon and the container to mix ingredients, as well as cutting a roll of kinetic sand with a butter knife.  These activities allow the students to practice their fine motor skills as well as their functional life skills to help them become more independent when eating.  Other students have continued to practice their phonics, reading and writing skills in their daily UFLI lessons with Ms. Veronika to improve their ability to read and understand the world around them.

To go along with our farm animals theme, the students created some adorable art this week - we made goats!  Each person created a goat using a variety of materials, and each person decided where each feature would go on their goat.  They are a work in progress, but they will be beautiful when they are done!

Bus Registration for 2026-27 School Year

Transportation Registration is now available through your CBE Account.

Families must register each year if they require busing for their student.

Families must register by Sunday, June 14, 2026 for students to be added to routes for the start of the next school year.

CBE will accept registrations after the deadline; however, students are added to the closest existing bus stop with available space. Processing times for registrations submitted after the June 14 deadline will be delayed.

Confirmed routes are posted in August. For those who register after the June 14 deadline, it may take until mid-October before your child is able to ride the bus.

Transportation can be cancelled with no financial impact by submitting the cancellation form by Sept. 30, 2026. Fees will be added to accounts in October 2026.

Food Support

Did you know that the Breakfast Club of Canada has shared research demonstrating that 40% of Alberta’s children experience food insecurity?  This means that 4 out of 10 children do not have access to food when they are hungry.

If your family is experiencing challenges with providing food for your children you can find help at Brown Bagging Calgary.

Complete this form for support and they can deliver lunches to McKenzie Towne School for your children. https://go.bb4ck.org/l/858913/2024-01-15/38fdbw You can also find out more information on their website https://bb4ck.org/
