Dear EES Families,
It has been another busy week!
We have continued to focus our learning on the topic of 'School Rules and Routines' and have spent a lot of time practicing the expectations in both our classrooms and in the wider school environment.
In Language Arts the students have been thinking about the rules of the classroom and what that looks like when we are in lessons, eating snack and lunch, or during choice time. They have practiced matching letters, words and phrases, as well as tracing school words and writing sentences. Some of our students are also working on a modified UFLI program to help them practice their phonics and reading skills. All of the learning in Language Arts has been reinforced through stories, songs, and interactive games.
In Math the students have continued to work on their number sense skills. Some students are matching 1-digit numbers, sequencing numbers, and learning to trace numbers. Others are working on counting, skip counting, and multi-digit number recognition and sequencing. This learning is also grounded in hands-on learning activities, games, and songs.
In Life Skills, we have been focusing on school routines. Students are learning what the sequence of events is throughout their school day, and what they need to do to follow these expectations. We are particularly focused on the start of day routine so that students know exactly what is expected of them when the arrive, so that they can begin their school day in a calm and organized way.
We explored instruments and a variety of songs in our weekly music class, and also created some beautiful 'All About Me' art to celebrate each child as an individual. Everyone had a lot of fun in both of these lessons!
Important Information:
Terry Fox Run
MTS Terry Fox run will take place on Wednesday, September 23 at 9:00 am.
We encourage students to bring in a toonie for Terry. Our fundraising goal is $1200, which is approximately a toonie for every student and staff member in the school.
Mr. V is in need of 5-8 volunteers for each grade to make it a successful event. Volunteers will be asked to help mark students' hands (so they can track their laps), and help with clean-up afterwards. Volunteers will be needed from 8:45am – 10:00am.
For parents and guardians who have completed their Annual Volunteer Clearance, you will receive a Sign-Up Genius from the MTSPA Volunteer Co-Ordinator.
MTS Open House
McKenzie Towne School will be hosting an Open House for students and their families on Thursday September 24. Doors will be open at 5:00pm.
This will give you an opportunity to meet your student's teacher and see the school.
