September 21-24, 2026

Dear EES Families,

We had a wonderful week celebrating the beginning of Fall! We talked about the visible seasonal changes around us, explored how the weather is changing. During our time outdoors, we observed the changing colours of the leaves, looked closely at the trees, and talked about the signs that tell us autumn has arrived.

One of the highlights of this week was participating in our whole-school Terry Fox Run. We learned about Terry Fox's inspiring life and legacy and joined our school community in honouring his determination, courage, and commitment to helping others. And running on the field with other students was absolute joy for all of us!

In Language Arts, we explored fall vocabulary through stories, word-reading activities, tracing, and writing practice. Students enjoyed recognizing and using seasonal words while building their literacy skills.

In Math, we continued developing number sense by exploring a range of numbers and their representation in different ways. We practiced recognizing numbers, counting, and representing numbers through songs, interactive games and a variety of hands-on activities.

Our Life Skills lessons this week were focused on setting the table. We learned the names of common kitchen tools and table items, practiced identifying what we need for a meal, and worked on sorting skills and placing items in the correct spots while setting the table.

Food Support

Did you know that the Breakfast Club of Canada has shared research demonstrating that 40% of Alberta’s children experience food insecurity?  This means that 4 out of 10 children do not have access to food when they are hungry.

If your family is experiencing challenges with providing food for your children you can find help at Brown Bagging Calgary.

Complete this form for support and they can deliver lunches to McKenzie Towne School for your children. https://go.bb4ck.org/l/858913/2024-01-15/38fdbw You can also find out more information on their website https://bb4ck.org/
