Dear Families,
It has certainly been another busy week here in EES!
The students have been enjoying the nice weather, which allowed us to have playtimes in the sunshine as well as the opportunity to have Phys. Ed. outdoors to get some extra fresh air.
With Mother's Day approaching, we have been focusing our learning on how our moms help us every day and how important they are. In Language Arts, the students have been practicing writing sentences, writing words, tracing vocabulary, matching words and matching pictures. These tasks have helped the students to think about all the things that their moms do for them, and to also think about what type of gifts or presents moms like to get for Mother's Day - expect lots of hugs!
In our Math lessons, the students have continued to work on the subject of Number. We have been working on sequencing numbers, matching numbers, using number lines, and adding two sets of digits. These skills have been reinforced through hands-on learning with number lines, manipulatives, songs and games.
Science this week connected our learning about plants from last week with the theme of Mother's Day. Flowers are a common gift for Mother's Day, so we explored the different parts of plants and sorted them using real life flowers. The students had the opportunity to take each bloom apart and get familiar with each leaf and petal.
Life Skills lessons have continued to focus on eating and items that we use in the kitchen to help us eat our meals. The students have been working on matching items from a place setting, such as plates, forks or spoons, as well as sorting identical and non-identical pictures of cutlery, and 'feeding our hungry friend' using a spoon - see the picture below!
As we enter the time of year that has cool mornings and warm afternoons, please continue to send your child to school wearing light layers so that they can adjust what they are wearing throughout the day. Please also continue to label all items that are sent to school so that we can make sure everything is sent back home with the right student.

Food Support
Did you know that the Breakfast Club of Canada has shared research demonstrating that 40% of Alberta’s children experience food insecurity? This means that 4 out of 10 children do not have access to food when they are hungry.
If your family is experiencing challenges with providing food for your children you can find help at Brown Bagging Calgary.
Complete this form for support and they can deliver lunches to McKenzie Towne School for your children. https://go.bb4ck.org/l/858913/2024-01-15/38fdbw You can also find out more information on their website https://bb4ck.org/
